Hi John,
I saw your piece on Wally Gibbons and salvage in the Solomons.

My parents moved to the Solomons in 1961, (UK Gov contract).

Around 1972/73 when I was 13/14 I had a holiday job on board the 'Danielle' doing bits and pieces of hookah diving. Wally was not on board at that time. The offshore ops were run by Mick Laurent and Carl Greenstreet as I recall.

We were still working the Yandina dump and it was nearly all 90mm cartridge casings that we were recovering at that time, (although I do remember a prop recovery).

Your mention of the firing of the empty casings brought memories flooding back, I could almost smell it!

I also remember the fuss over the Gloria Maris finds and he along with Brian Bailey I believe had found some colonies of 'Ebony' corals that were very much sort after.

I have not met any underwater cameramen in Taiwan, as yet. Lanyu should be excellent for diving. Facilities at the island are said to be minimal. No ATM's etc. Green Island is closer inshore as you would know - you might get cameraman information from greenislandreservations@hotmail.com It's an old email address belonging to "Eddie", who speaks English. There are several dive shops on Green Island. The next best suggestion would be to do a search on You Tube and Vimeo for 'Taiwan underwater video' and find a regular contributor.

Dear John,
I am a British cameraman who shoots documentaries for German TV. I will be making a film on Lanyu island in April and will need someone to shoot underwater footage. Would you be interested? If not, could you help me locate an underwater cameraman in Taiwan?
Thanks
Chris
